About Us

Coming from a farming background I have always had a passion for the welfare and care of animals. After a career within the admin sector I was lucky enough to have the backing to pursue my long awaited chosen career of dog grooming.

After successfully qualifying as a Dog Groomer Stylist, I started working from home and built up a good customer base. Over time it became apparent that I needed to expand and hence opened Dapper Dogz in Rustington. I now have four young ladies working with me, two of which are also City & Guilds qualified Dog Groomers and the other two City & Guilds Apprentices.

Why choose us

Why choose us

Upon arrival, new customers and their owners will have an informal chat to establish coat condition and styling requirements which they will require for their everyday lives. Whether it be groomed to Kennel Club Standards for show, or shorter styles to reflect working dogs or simply family pets who have an abundance of energy and enjoy muddy woods, sand and sea (plus of course the occasional smelly fish or fox poo)! There are many reasons to choose Dapper Dogz, below are just a few benefits we offer as part of our service.

We have a cage free environment, offering individual warm and cosy pens.

We use walk in baths and hand dryers to reduce stress and each dog is dried on a one to one basis.

We pride ourselves on working with all types of dogs in a calming atmosphere and surroundings.

Approximately 2 hour appointments depending on the breed and size of dog, with flexible drop off and pickup times.

I have a lovely 3 year old miniature Schnauzer named Alfie and he has been going to Dapper Dogz for 2 1/2 years now for grooming. I am very happy with Pauline and her staff, all the girls treat him very well. I am delighted with the efficiency and professionalism of the grooming parlour. I would recommend this little business to all dog owners.

In order to give your pet the best possible care and attention, whilst providing a grooming service which works with your way of life, we will have an informal chat on arrival to establish coat type, frequency of visits and styling requirements.

Upon this visit we will obtain any relevant medical conditions which need to be taken into consideration, in order to prevent any undue care and possible irritation to the skin.

Matted Coats:

We will always endeavour to remove knots however, working within the Pet Industry Federation the rules and guide lines dictate that we must NOT put your pet under any undue stress and discomfort, therefore we will clip the coat short if this is the case. We would then discuss grooming techniques with yourselves in order to prevent having to go so short in the future. We will also advise on frequency of appointments to provide you will the coat length and style that you would like.

Fleas:

If your dog has fleas please treat them prior to visiting the Parlour, approximate time for treatment to kill fleas is between 24-48 hours (please refer to your flea treatment for guidelines). Should your dog be brought to us with infestation which is discovered after the groom has started, a surcharge of £25 will apply. This covers the cost of bathing your dog using an insecticidal shampoo and the thorough cleansing and disinfecting of the Spa.

Females In Season:

The first sign of a female coming “into season” is often swelling of the vulva. This swelling can occur a week before bleeding, or the day before. Other signs of heat are behavioural changes; your dog may start to mount other dogs, or pups or even your leg. She may also begin to lick herself a lot. An un-spayed female dog can usually be expected to come into heat twice yearly, and it normally lasts three weeks. However, when it comes to seasons you cannot class all dogs alike as some seasons can vary in length from two to four weeks.

She will have a very STRONG, distinct smell that dogs from MILES around can smell, this is to be avoided within a grooming parlour as it can cause the male dogs to become unsettled. Females are also very sensitive during this time and do not appreciate being groomed.

If your dog is showing signs or within this period and you have a pre-arranged grooming appointment, please give us a ring and we will cancel and provide you with an alternative date once their cycle has finished.

Drop-off and Pickup:

If you have any problems relating to your drop-off time, please give us a ring we are more than happy to work around your other appointments providing we can give your dog the relevant space within our parlour.

Most appointments range from 2 – 2.5 hours although we do give an approximate time depending on the size of dog.

We do not charge for late pickup, however due to providing each individual dog with its own space within the parlour we would ask you to be as prompt as possible. Again, we can work with you in the timescales that you have but please discuss this with us.

Payment:

We accept cash and all major credit cards, and we also have contactless payment. Prices are subject to change without prior notice.
